Community Concert Association Presents
Matt Davenport's ‘American Jukebox'

The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will present “American Jukebox” as its sixth and final concert for the 2008-09 season. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone. The house will open at 6:30 p.m.

This concert is open to current concert association members and new members joining for the next season. The new members will be admitted to this last concert as a bonus to their 2009-10 membership. Any full-time student will be admitted to the concert for a $5 donation at the door.

“American Jukebox” is conceived, written and directed by Matt Davenport of Matt Davenport Productions. This colorful, high-energy spectacular is a two-hour, full-length version of the original production that dazzled audiences for 10 years at premier entertainment park, Busch Gardens Europe.

A live six-piece band rocks the house with ‘50s, ‘60s, country, Motown, blues and other American music styles as a cast of six singers and dancers make the enormous center-stage jukebox come alive with lights and sound. Featuring mega-hits such as “Whole Lotta Shakin',” “Love Me Tender,” “Y.M.C.A.,” “Don't Rock the Jukebox,” and “Soul Man,” “American Jukebox” is a vigorous trip down America's favorite musical memory lanes.

Davenport has written and directed numerous original stage shows, including “ The American Pride Show” in Myrtle Beach, S.C., which won “Show of the Year” honors in its debut season.

In 1998, the success of his No. 1 rated new show, “ American Jukebox,” helped garner Amusement Parks “Best Shows” award for Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. Davenport was also the creative force behind his company's national tours of “ The Tennessee Waltz ,” “ Ropin' the West,” “One Enchanted Evening,” “Birth of the Beat” and “ American Rhapsody ,” which was a part of the International Gershwin Centennial Celebration.

Davenport has also produced and directed several productions of the Off-Broadway hit, “ Always … Patsy Cline .” His original production “ Country Tonite” in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., was awarded “Show of the Year” from 2001-2005 by the North American Country Music Association. Most recently, Davenport directed a critically acclaimed production of “ Forever Plaid” at the historic Empire Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.
